Root canal filling provides a quick and effective solution to pain and inflammation. Extend the life of your natural teeth.
A root canal filling is a treatment in which, after removing the damaged or infected pulp (nerve), the root canal is filled with a special material. This hermetically seals the inside of the tooth, prevents the penetration of bacteria and extends the life of the tooth without pain and other complications.
The dentist will assess the condition of your tooth using a clinical examination and X-ray to determine the extent of damage and inflammation in the root canals.
The affected tooth is locally numbed with anesthesia and then isolated with a rubber dam (rubber membrane) to prevent contamination with saliva during treatment.
The dentist will then create access to the inside of the tooth and use special instruments (endodontic files) to remove infected or dead dental pulp from the root canals.
The canals are thoroughly mechanically and chemically cleaned, disinfected, and prepared for filling. If necessary, they are temporarily sealed and the treatment is completed at the next visit.
After a thorough cleaning, the dentist will fill the canals with a biocompatible material (most often gutta-percha) to prevent further spread of infection. Finally, the tooth will be sealed with a filling or prepared for a prosthetic solution (e.g. a crown) to ensure its strength and functionality.
Are you suffering from severe toothache? Don’t wait until the infection spreads and causes bigger problems. Book an early treatment appointment at Casa Dental as soon as possible.
A root canal is a treatment of the inner space of the tooth (the root canals), where the dental pulp is located. During the treatment, infected or dead pulp is removed, the canals are thoroughly cleaned, and then filled with a special material.
A root canal filling is painless because the treatment is performed under local anesthesia. After the procedure, the tooth may be slightly sensitive for a few days, which is natural.
Most often in cases of deep decay, pulpitis, a dead tooth, or after an injury. Root canal treatment helps save a tooth that would otherwise need to be extracted.
The length of the procedure depends on the number of root canals and the condition of the tooth. In simpler cases, it takes 60-90 minutes. More complex cases may require multiple visits.
It is recommended to wait until the anesthesia has completely worn off. It is advisable to chew on the opposite side of the mouth and avoid hard foods for a few days until the tooth is strengthened with a final filling or crown.
In many cases, yes. The tooth may be weakened after treatment and a crown will provide the necessary protection and functionality.
With proper treatment and good hygiene, a root canal filling can last for many years. Regular check-ups with your dentist are also important.
If a root canal is not possible, the only alternative is to extract the tooth. In this case, the resulting gap must be addressed, for example with an implant or bridge.
